MANAGER

BURA SURFHOUSE - TAGHAZOUT, MOROCCO

We are opening our new Bura Surfhouse in Taghazout, Morocco in September 2017. This will operate as a 16 bed surf camp style accommodation, focusing on surfing, yoga, and adventures into Moroccan culture.

Required Attributes/Skills

We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic, hardworking and friendly, with experience in hospitality management and managing a small staff team.
 
A good knowledge of English and French, both written and spoken is essential, along with a full driving license (to drive a manual vehicle).
Arabic helpful but not essential.

We would initially like you to come and spend time with us in Lagos, Portugal getting to know Bura as a brand and training with the core team before arriving in Morocco in September to finalise set-up for opening.

Role & Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

1. Staffing and Management
Training staff and identifying training needs and development
Provide job description for each role to conduct appropriate training
Hold regular staff meetings to provide and gather feedback on key service areas
Motivate staff team
Observe and evaluate performance and provide appraisal and feedback as relevant 
Manage staff rota 
Advertising for and selecting staff
Managing staff wages in accordance with budget
Ensuring company policies and procedures are adhered to 

2. Sales and Marketing
Having good knowledge of your product and services. 
Understanding what your guests want and responding to comments/reviews proactively
Liaising with Marketing manager informing them of strategies/changes needed to existing products
Liaising with agents and activity providers regarding services, commissions and payments

3. Customer Service
Maintain a `hands- on’ role involving:-
Keeping up to date and accurate knowledge of bookings, occupancy levels, guest reviews in order to feedback to staff team and senior management team 
Daily arrivals, departures and activities
Attending dinners/events 
Seeking and responding to guest feedback
Handling concerns/complaints

4. Housekeeping
Ensure quality standards for cleanliness 
Conduct spot checks on a regular and random basis
Ensure staff report maintenance/sanitation issues to hosts for action, or to you for further assessment
Provide deep cleaning schedule 

5. Inventory Control
Monitor inventory levels and supervise purchasing in line with budget
Research suppliers for best prices, value and availability of products

6. Accounting and budgeting
Maintain accurate records of revenue and expenditure
Follow the operational budget (includes room rates)

7. Business development and strategy
Follow trends in the hostel industry
Be aware of competitors 
Identify changing needs of guests
Participate in opportunities for personal development - eg Conferences, training courses

8. Entertainment, atmosphere, activities
Create and execute a plan to maintain desired hostel atmosphere and vibe
Record duties, expenses, challenges and successes for each event to inform future events and replication
Engage guests directly

9. Health, Safety and Maintenance
Health and Safety management for employees
Health and Safety in relation to guests and guest environment
Review maintenance documents regularly to ensure they remain relevant and up to date e.g vehicle maintenance, smoke alarm checks etc

Conditions and Pay:

This is a year round position as the sun shines and the waves roll all year long. We will have a one month closure period per year in August.

You will receive a monthly salary along with the following:

Staff accommodation on site or in our staff apartment, all utilities included
Breakfast daily and dinner in the evenings 
Free surf lessons upon availability
Access to free or discounted activities such as stand up paddleboarding
Staff holiday at end of each season

BARTENDER

BURA SURFHOUSE - LAGOS, PORTUGAL

*This role is for the period effective August 2017 to November 2017*

Hours of work: 6-8 hours shifts over 5-6 days variable by season.   Maximum 40 hours per week.

Conditions and Pay:

You will receive €100 per week along with the following:
Staff accommodation either in hostel or staff apartment during high season
Breakfast daily and dinner on the evenings you are working
Discounts on drinks and meals (on non work days) offered at our bar
Access to free or discounted activities with guests such as surf lessons, kayaking trips and wine tasting

Role and Responsibilities:

We operate a poolside bar within our hostel that provides a central point for our guests to relax, meet, and enjoy some great events with great drinks and food.  As a key player in our events team, you will provide a social and friendly atmosphere whilst also being highly organised and self-motivated to ensure the smooth running of the day to day bar operations, along with the team.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing excellent customer service for our guests
- Maintaining the hostel vibe and ethos within the bar
- Help coordinate and participate in events on a regular basis
- Stock control and ordering within given budget
- Keeping accurate records using our recording systems
- Keeping the bar in good order and maintaining cleanliness standards
- Participate in team meetings
- Maintain and develop positive relationships with other local staff and establishments for the benefit of our guests
- Participate in social media to document events for our guests

Requirements for this role:

- Previous bartending experience
- Good spoken English
- Other languages preferred but not essential
- Ability to create an amazing social atmosphere and genuine interest in others
- EU passport and ability to work in Portugal

RECEPTIONIST

BURA SURFHOUSE - LAGOS, PORTUGAL

*This vacancy is for the period of 1st September to 10th November, 2017*

Hours of work: Rotating shift pattern 8am - 4pm, 4pm - 11pm, 11pm - 8am.

Conditions and Pay:

You will receive €100 per week along with the following:

- Staff accommodation either in hostel or staff apartment during high season
- Breakfast daily and dinner on the evenings you are working
- Discounts on drinks and meals (on non work days) offered at our bar
- Access to free or discounted activities with guests such as surf lessons, kayaking trips and wine tasting

Role and Responsibilities:

We operate a 24 hour reception and you will be responsible for participating, along with the reception team, in a rotating 24 hour shift pattern. The ideal candidate will have great enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, good problem solving abilities, patience and the ability to be self-motivated, reliable and highly organised. You are a key front of house team member, most often the first point of contact for guests either in person, or via telephone or email and you must convey the vibe and ethos of our hostel at all times and contribute to the smooth running of the day to day hostel operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Welcoming guests and being their point of contact as the face of the reception
- Handling guest enquiries/booking of activities and additional services - this can be for existing guests or enquiries via email and telephone
- Using our bookings system to check guests in and out
- Cash handling and taking guest payments
- Keeping our recording and communication systems up to date
- Ensuring our policies are adhered to at all times
- Cleaning the shared spaces and ensuring the hostel is in good order
- Providing breakfast for guests
- Directing volunteer staff in their daily tasks
- Communicating effectively with the reception team and other members of the hostel staff team to deliver efficient, knowledgeable and friendly service at all times
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to positive improvements for the hostel
- Maintaining positive relationships and liaising with activity providers and tour operators

Requirements for this role:

- Previous experience in reception and/or front of house role is highly desirable.
- All training on our systems will be given on appointment.
- Experience in hospitality preferred
- Positive attitude and a love for getting to know new people and experiencing new places
- Excellent level of spoken and written English - additional languages preferred but not essential
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi-task is a must!
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-faceted team
- Ability to work within the EU
